At our church, we do this thing called Theology and Film. It's pretty neat. Basically every few weeks a secular film is shown and at the end of the movie everyone hangs around and reflects upon Jesus and how the Gospel can be found throughout. They talk about how to engage with popular cinema in a way that is nuanced, rooted in the gospel, and glorifying to God. Then, after watching, people take part in discussions on the worldviews, themes, and truths reflected in the film. God can honestly be found in everything. One week it was Indiana Jones, one week Jurassic Park... but all end in this real encouraging and eye opening discussion.
It got me thinking...since I know the Gospel seeps out of everything on Earth, why not do this with music as well. There are a lot of secular songs out there that just drip with Gospel truths. You may have noticed this already happening here on SLBS, with the last two desktop backgrounds, but I thought I'd take some time to confirm that that was indeed what I was trying to do. Let's encourage one another to praise Him in ALL things. Even something as simple as a movie or Avett Brother song lyric (love them) can be looked into, and enjoyed in a way that's actually seeing Jesus and His absolute goodness. (By the way, the song is Swept Away, for those of you wondering)
A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives.
- 1 Corinthians 7: 39
An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.
- Proverbs 31: 10-12
We actually serve, bring joy to and glorify God when we are committed to living biblical lives with our spouses! It's a privilege, honor and gift to be bound together in marriage. So take joy, be encouraged, and rejoice if you are married! Be bound to them. Be one with them. Exude Jesus and His glorious Gospel through your marriage for all to see.
