{about}

Hello and welcome!! I'm so glad you've come here and decided to stay a while! Sit back and let me tell you a little about myself.

I'm Christina Main and I am the doer, writer, baker, cook(er?) behind Sweet Lavender Bake Shoppe!

Most importantly, I'm a sinner who has been graciously and mercifully saved from death, through the life and selfless sacrifice of Jesus Christ. My story is a story of true redemption. I whole heartedly believe in the Bible, believe it to be completely inerrant, living and God's breathed Word. I believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy SpiritAlthough a wretched and sinful person, through His sovereign grace, I'm able to strive to follow His Word daily. I know that without Him, I couldn't do a darn thing.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father, who does not change like shifting shadows.
James 1:17

Secondly, I am a wife, mother, and as of early 2016, a gal dealing with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis Autoimmune Disease. Upon hearing about my diagnosis, I dove head first into the world of researching and studying anything and everything concerning self healing. I am a full believer in food pharmacology. You guys, food IS medicine. Every single thing you put into your body has the power to heal or hurt you and I am learning to choose wisely. I have now made it my job to provide our little family with as many healthy, unprocessed, healing, AND DELICIOUS meals as possible. Specifically, ones that will help heal my autoimmune diseases. I adhere pretty strictly to the Paleo diet with the added removal of any and all food items I know my body reacts negatively to (aka food sensitivity...not to be confused with food allergy) via trial and error as well as the results of the Alletess Food Sensitivity Test. I cannot recommend that test enough for those of you wanting to know where to start in your own food healing journey. Any foods that show up positive are foods that have a negative effect on your body, be it migraines, bloating, digestive issues, heart burn, inflammation and so on.

Eating unprocessed, Paleo, and nutrient dense, tends to want to go down the difficult and/or tasteless road, but I choose to challenge myself everyday to try and to create new and exciting recipes that we will all enjoy.

Thirdly, I am a trained culinary and pastry chef. I've always been in love with anything and everything involving food since I was a little girl. From watching Food Network everyday after school (what 12 year old does that??) to sneaking raw eggs into my room so I could try and whip egg whites like they did on t.v., I couldn't get enough. So naturally, after a few years of college I decided to pursue that love and ended up enrolling and then graduating with honors from the California School of Culinary Arts, in Pasadena, CA back in 2005 with a Le Cordon Bleu degree. Yay for fatty, buttery, delicious, French cooking!

For the next few years I spent countless LONG hours working in various kitchens as anything from cold food cooking to sauté cook to (of course) pastry work. This is where I really found myself- I couldn't get enough of the pastry work and desserts! I eventually landed the role of Pastry Chef after discovering how much I absolutely loved working with sweets. Although I am classically trained, I am now finding myself relearning how to cook- paleo-style! Instead of my beloved butter, I'm using coconut oil and palm shortening. In place of sugar, it's honey, maple or coconut sugar. And my favorite flours are now switched to things like arrowroot, cashew and coconut flour. Even enjoying a simple cupcake or dinner has drastically changed and looks more different than I ever imagined. My culinary skills are being stretched, flexed, and pushed to exciting and challenging limits.

That's exactly what inspired this blog. I wanted a place to be able to come (even if virtually) and sit and chat with you all (my friends) about life, faith, hobbies, loves, and of course food. I wanted to share with you all recipes that we enjoy, love and adore. So grab a cup of tea and a sunny spot in the room, and let's have a chat.

I am currently living in Los Angeles with my extremely lovely (and very handsome and talented) husband, son and two cantankerous kitties! I am a Pastry Chef, Wife, Mama, Friend, Sister, Daughter, and Follower of Jesus.
